本日の発見： 『個人主義の再構築』

ニクラス・ルーマンの論文「個人なるものの個体性」の書誌を調べていて、迂闊にも見逃していた たいへんなことに気がついてしまった。
この論文、最初に「Reconstructing Individualism」という会議で報告され、その後 この↓報告集に収録された、ということなんですが...

グーグル書籍で読める編者序文によると、このカンファレンスは 1984年──『社会的システムたち』の出版年──２月18-20日にスタンフォード大で行われたものだとのこと。報告集（＝書籍）は1986年に出版されています。
それが再録されたルーマンの英文論文集 Essays on Self-Reference は、1990年の出版。

これ、イアン・ハッキングの論文「人々を作り上げる Making Up People」所収本でもあるのですよ。

ということは、この会議には、ハッキングも招集されて、いっしょに報告をおこなった、ということなんでしょうかね。
表紙をみると、ほかにクリフォード、ヌスバウム、ギリガンやカヴェルなどなどの名前も見えます。
ルーマンて、けっこう偉いひとだったんですね！

ところで、編者が序文で引いているハッキングの言葉は──目下の野尻さんとのやり取りにとっても──趣き深くも重要であるように思われますな：

The concept of locality of practice is epitomized in Hacking's dictum: I do not belive there is a general story to be told about making up people. As in the work of Foucault, the emphasis on "locality" bespeaks a general disillusionment with the political and theoretical implications of global or totalizing accounts of identity or other objects of study. [...] Hacking describes the constitution of a social practice that creates new possibilities of being. These emergent categories or recategorizations do not determine identity, rather, they open up spaces where both autonomous development and varieties of control are possible. The set of description of possible lives is always evolving, historically specific, and local. [p.13]
